Focus Martha

Don’t adjust your screens, this is a different kind of focus. I want to talk to you about religious focus. 2000 years ago there were two main religious groups, the Pharisees and the Sadducee. The Pharisees were very holier then thou and felt that they gained favor with God because of their strict living. The Sadducee were the politically minded Jews who found their worth in social acceptance. Both groups were focused on outward signs of worth that took their focus of what was really important, God. Many times we loose track of what and who is really important and even church can get in the way. Many times we can get so busy in doing things for God that we forget to do things with God. In the bible you find the story of Mary and Martha, two sisters who spend a day with Jesus. In Luke 10:38 you find the story As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Martha fell into the same trap that many of us do in that she wanted so badly to do things for God that she forgot to find out what God wanted from her. As you go through your day, include Jesus and listen for his instruction. Love God, Love each other, Divorce the World!
