Esther is a book about a kingdom whose palace is on the brink of political ruin, there is a plan to destroy God’s people, and the problems and situations seem beyond the control of the people. But through all of the fear God has a plan. God always has a plan and the best thing you can do in life is read your bible, pray and listen for God to show you your part of the plan.

Esther was a young girl living in Persia; she was an orphan and had been raised by her uncle Mordecai. The king at the time, Xerxes, banished the Queen threw her out of the palace and was finding a replacement by gathering all of the young girls together and bringing them to him one by one.

Esther 2:15-18

15 When the turn came for Esther (the young woman Mordecai had adopted, the daughter of his uncle Abihail) to go to the king, she asked for nothing other than what Hegai, the king’s eunuch who was in charge of the harem, suggested. And Esther won the favor of everyone who saw her. 16 She was taken to King Xerxes in the royal residence in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

17 Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. 18 And the king gave a great banquet, Esther’s banquet, for all his nobles and officials. He proclaimed a holiday throughout the provinces and distributed gifts with royal liberality.

We don’t always know why God puts us in the places he does. Some things like going to school and working hard are mostly in our control, not always. Other things like our ability to speak in front of people, how strong we are or how well we deal with stress can be very little about what we want and more about how God made us. And then there are things like the weather, where we were born or our genes which we have no control over. Esther had become queen without a choice but that doesn’t mean that it was an accident. God makes us all special for his glory because as Christians we are the body of Christ in this world. Look how Paul says it in

1 Corinthians 12:12-20

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by[c] one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

When looking for God’s will or purpose in your life, don’t worry about you or your own abilities, God’s abilities and power are what we trust in.We can trust in God and his plan because he has our best interest in mind.

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

We have a promise in God that everything happens for a reason if we follow God. What promise do you have if you choose not to?

[while aiming an arrow at Lewis' eye] Any of you boys want to shoot, now’s the time. There isn’t one of us that doesn’t want to be someplace else. But this is what we do, who we are. Live for nothing, or die for something. Your call. – John Rambo

Rambo is the story Vietnam veteran John Rambo who has broken ties from the world because of the pain and death he’s experiences in his life. Now living in Thailand, he spends his time capturing snakes for local entertainers, and driving locals down river in his military PT boat. The story revolves around a group of Christian missionaries who seek out Rambo to fairy them to Burma. For over fifty years, Burma has been a war zone. The people are suffering without basic medicine or food. After some encouragement from Sara, one of the groups leaders, Rambo accepts the offer. When the missionaries come up missing Rambo becomes their only Hope.

In the end Rambo is a top tear action flick filled with not only gunfire and explosions but also a positive message about living with purpose in your life. Stallone who both wrote and directed the film creates from the very beginning a man who is without a doubt heroic and capable. The story sucks you in from the get-go and holds you in suspense for the entire ride and ends with a profound realization of the human condition.

(caution, some spoilers but it dosn’t ruin the plot twists in the end)

MPAA: Rated R for some brutal violence and language

Post apocalyptic movies are a dime a dozen but sometimes a great movie can’t be overshadowed by an over used plot. The Book of Eli is a story of God’s plan and power in the life of one seemingly insignificant man. The movie is briliantly started without dialoug but instead we see the day to day activities of a resoursefull drifter. The world feels cold and isolated, there is not another soul in sight until Eli comes upon a stranded woman and a highjackers trap. This is resolved through one of the most finely crafted and brutal fight scenes ever made.

Their’s no shortage of drama, action or God’s grace in this 118 min. epic staring Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis, Gary Oldman and the ever wonderful Tom Waits.

With memorable guitar riffs and violent guttural vocals AILD is by far one of the heaviest and most talented bands on the planet. As I lay dying’s 5 studio albums have shown their true face with their most recent release The Powerless Rise (2010)securing their place in music history. On September 11th, 2011, they released a new track called “Paralyzed”. It will be featured on their upcoming compilation album, Decas, which will be released on November 8th, 2011, in honor of their decade as a band.

AILD has become a staple of live metal playing the biggest festivals in the world including The Warped Tour, Ozzfest, Bloodfest and the legendary Wacken Open Air! I got the pleasure of seeing them live at Clutch Cargo’s in MI and I’ve never felt a room more full of heart pounding energy!

As I Lay Dying’s sound can be described as American Metalcore a screaming, fast paced offshoot of heavy metal. They have proven themselves from the brutal to melodic to epic without straying from what the fans (I mostly mean me) love!

As I Lay Dying have stated on numerous occasions that all of the members of the group are Born Again Christians. On the band’s FAQ you’ll find Tims view, “I’m not sure what the difference is between five Christians playing in a band and a Christian band. If you truly believe something, then it should affect every area of your life. All five of us are Christians. I believe that change should start with me first, and as a result, our lyrics do not come across very ‘preachy.’ Many of our songs are about life, struggles, mistakes, relationships and other issues that don’t fit entirely in the spiritual category. However, all of these topics are written about through my perspective as a Christian.”

There are lots of questions about Christ and his existence, relevance, necessity and one of the most common is, “why should anyone be damned to Hell”. As people look around they see friends and loved ones who while they may not live for Jesus, they still seem like moderately good people, so why should they go to Hell?

The first thing we need to establish is that God has been letting people prove their evil nature for thousands of years. From the beginning of time people have been committing horrible acts with less temptation then we would like to think necessary. Riots are the perfect example of human nature, it starts out as civilized people congregating for a common purpose when one event chains into mass violence. The same people you work with, the same people you live next door to, stealing, raping, and beating each other. God has shown over the ages that people are all evil and all deserve death. (Romans gives a nice outline of this process if you want further reference) If we all deserve death then God could very well destroy all of us and be right in doing so. The prophet Amos was faced with the destruction of his people when God gave him a vision (Amos Chapter 7 verses 1-9) Amos was given a vision of God sending locusts to destroy all of Israel’s crops so the people would starve. Amos pleaded for God to spare them and so God said fine if not locusts then God gave Amos a vision of a great fire that even burned the sea. Again, Amos pleaded with God, and God said I won’t do that either. Finally Amos was given a vision of God standing next to a building that was built using a plumb line. “What’s a plumb line?”, you ask. Plumb is a construction term that means straight up and down. A plumb line is a string tied to a weight so that gravity makes the string “plumb” God was sanding next to a building and he was checking it with a plumb line. He then asked Amos, “What do you see” Amos said, ” A plumb line” God then told Amos I will test my people with this plumb line and no longer ignore their sins. A plumb line is perfectly straight or upright for our needs and a carpenter of that day used a plumb line and what ever the plumb line said was straight was straight. The only truly upright and just person to ever live was Jesus. in the same way when we get to the gates of heaven if Jesus says your upright then that’s it, you win. If not you’re garbage. This is why we call salvation, salvation and not judgement because all of us under judgement would be found evil and deserving of Hell. Therefore anyone who gets sent to Hell is deserving of Hell. But being saved is just that Jesus saving you from the Hell you deserve. So what can you do but take the free gift? Jesus died for you just take it. First tell Jesus that you understand that you’re a sinner and feel free to tell him what sins you’ve committed ( it doesn’t matter that he knows it’s about what you’ve done. Tell him anyway) next ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus because Jesus died for us as a perfect lamb who could atone for all our sins. Next declare Jesus as the one and true living God and that you will serve him before anything else in this world. Now open your heart for the holy spirit to live inside of you. If you did this you need to find a bible believing church and get baptized.

Judgement is what we deserve, Grace is an act of love from God to the world.

Ok so what’s the whole go to Hell thing all about? Well I was thinking about the phrase and it’s really a nasty one. Go to Hell is saying ” I want you to suffer… a lot!” Why would anyone say go to Hell? Well here’s the lesson. Every God fearing Christian can tell you about the people that he or she is worried is going to Hell and probably doesn’t care. We are taught to reach the lost at any cost, we make our music, messages, smiles and services as “seeker friendly” as possible. When someone walks through our door we do everything in our power to welcome them and avoid anything that may turn them away. We offer men’s and women’s specialty groups that help us find how God can benefit us. If someone struggles with commitment to Christ we “let the spirit work on their heart” But what would Jesus do? What did Jesus do? As Christians we think that because we want something, that we should pursue it as hard as possible. In Matthew 19:16-30 Jesus does something that we as Christians seem to be unwilling to do. While Jesus came so that all might be saved, all won’t be saved because not everyone will accept Jesus. In Matthew 19 Jesus meets up with a young rich man who says “what good thing must I do to get into Heaven” Now it needs to be said that there are about a hundred little things in this part to be analyzed and I just don’t have the time but this set of verses has much to offer. Jesus tells him to obey the commandments, he says I’ve done this, what more do I need. BOOM! Perfect salvation opportunity, we as Christians have seen it a thousand times. What do you need to go to Heaven? Only one answer JESUS!!! … …. wait, …. right? isn’t Jesus the answer. Someone asks what it takes to get into heaven and obviously understands there’s something missing in his life. When he asks what you need the answer is Jesus isn’t it? Not what Jesus did, Jesus looked in his heart to find the one “wrong” answer. The right ones being the ones that would lead him to salvation. Jesus could have told him anything and he would have done it. But Jesus found the one thing he wouldn’t give up. Jesus said “Sell everything you have and give it to the poor”. Then the man got really sad and walked off. Jesus could have told the man just follow me and let him grow to love Jesus. But instead he said if you won’t make me first,… then you can go to Hell. And that really is the message to all of us. If Sex or drugs or your family or whatever is more important then God, then while God may want you he’ll still let you go. It’s a hard message and I wouldn’t suggest any of you find baby Christians and start playing Judge, but this message is for you. Don’t use it as a way to persecute but instead use it as a way to fine tune yourself. What, if anything are you holding back from God? Why? I challenge all of you to give your life to him fully. If you really love God and really believe he knows what’s best then why not set you’re standards above and beyond what God asks for.

So now the hard part (yeah first absolute submission to God then the “Hard part”) What about your lost loved ones? If you really love God and really believe that he’s the lord of all then you need to understand that if your family doesn’t want him, there’s really nothing you can do. You need to understand that on judgement day if someone wasn’t willing to give up their child for God, then God will do without them for eternity. I know it’s hard to see the people you care most for slipping away but remember keep praying and be light to the world and if they like what they see in you, then they might be willing to give him a chance. God bless and I love you.
